User generated content (UGC) is defined as “any form of content created by users of an online system or service, often made available via social media websites”. It is also often called user created content (UCC)

There is no doubt that licensed content helps sell product online but sites like Zazzle, CafePress, Socierty6 & Red Bubble have also made user generated content popular for adding new products to your website

User Generated Content has quite a few more useful benefits

  • It also attracts people to your website as product creators want to show their friends what they have created
  • Allows artists and designers to put together a range of products without the expense of creating their own website
  • It allows you to add lots of extra content to your website without incurring extra costs

PERSONALISE-iT Apps & Gateway CPP are a great way to enable your website users to create products for sale on your website – we have several options you can use

  1. Add a “Save” button to a product personalisation app so people can save their creation
  2. Add an upload folder so people can upload images which can then be run through our print on demand app to generate multiple products for a design
  3. Facebook App – so you can run competitions on social media to create products

Here is a good example website that enables users to create and publish their own products

Although used mainly for B2C sites at the moment there is no reason why this concept can not be used for companies – where an organisation could create their own range of promotional products and then share these with other users in their company

Our guess is that UGC is going to become a lot more popular over the next few years
